Two of the most successful contemporary Forest authors, Shoo Rayner and Andrew Taylor, are at a joint event this week - Friday 4th November. Shoo has written and illustrated over 180 books for children including The Ginger Ninja, Axel Storm, and the Dragon series. He's also know to children around the world for his Drawing School video channel on Youtube (here). Andrew meanwhile writes primarily crime fiction, for which he has won numerous awards including the Diamond Dagger, and the Golden Crowbar. His latest book, Fireside Gothic is out this week. It features, 'three tales of fear, retribution and death,' one of which, The Scratch, features a couple living in the Forest of Dean with their cat Cannop.
The event on Friday is an opportunity to meet the authors, purchase a signed copy fo their latest books....and raise money for the local parish.
The Authors Festival this weekend in Coleford once again demonstrates the growing interest in Forest of Dean writers and writing. Organised by Felicity Edwards of the Dean Writers Circle and Coleford Area Partnership, the event runs across Friday and Saturday (28th & 29th October) at The Main Place - Coleford's combined library and community venue. The event features a pop-up bookshop for, opportunities to meet local professional authors, and a host of other activities. Passion for some of our best loved local writers was certainly evident at the An Evening of...events earlier in the year hosted by Cinderford and Coleford Libraries, and it's great to see this matched by enthusiasm for our most successful current Forest writers too. Further details of the Authors Festival can be found here.
